Animals Asia Foundation is dedicated to ending cruelty and promoting respect for all animals in Asia. Its projects include a dog-therapy programme and a campaign to end dog and cat eating in Asia, while their main project is the ongoing rescue of 500 farmed Moon Bears in China and a campaign to end bear bile farming by working with the government and the local community. The rescued bears, many of which have spent years in tiny cages being agonisingly milked for their bile, are brought to a sanctuary in Sichuan province for rehabilitation and lots of tender, loving care. To date (January 2008), 219 bears have been saved from brutal farms in China. A similar project has been launched in Vietnam, where AAF has an agreement with the government to rescue 200 bears.
AAF has supported PAC from the outset, by providing initial funding for conversion of premises, on-going funding every month to support PAC’s staff, and, in 2008, the donation of a grant towards the purchase of land for project PPP (Permanent PAC Premises).
